Los tomates cherry no resisten las heladas entonces si estas en Bogotá o algún lugar igual de frio no te recomiendo ponerlos directamente en la tierra sino en materas (de 12 pulgadas de diametro estarían bien). Las variedades más ricas se denominan heirlooms y su rareza radica en que no se consiguen en el comercio pues son tomates que no so portan las condiciones de manejo y tiempos de espera que demanda el mercado. Si las puedes conseguir, te las recomiendo. Sino las consigues (en Bogotá no se consiguen) te recomiendo comprar variedades híbridas, en particular el cherry minired hybrid F1(si hay enfermedades prominentes en el area donde vas a cultivar compra variedades resistentes, las letras después del nombre del híbrido te lo dicen. F=Fusarium,V=verticulum M=Mosaico del tabaco, N=Nemátodos ) que es el que yo tengo plantado y me ha dado muy buenos resultados (se consigue en un almacen en la 73 con Caracas, cerca a agrocampo)(puedes ver los tomaticos creciendo en la foto :)). Las semillas son bastante escazas y como te vas a dar cuenta, muy costosas (1 semilla del híbrido que te comenté cuesta 0.85 US$). Para germinarlas te recomiendo una cama de germinación de unos 9 centimetros cuadrados por semilla y unos 4 centimetros de profundidad. Llenala con una mezcla de 75% tierra (no puede estar fertilizada porque las plantulas no lo resisten y germinarían y morirían) y 25% cascarilla de arroz. Abrele huecos por debajo y riegala hasta que la tierra absorba toda el agua (un atomizador hace el trabajo de manera eficiente)(q no quede como un pantano !!, humedo solamente). Ahora siembra las semillas (las semillas se siembran a una profundidad igual a su diametro) en el centro de las cuadrículas con las dimensiones que te especifiqué y pon la caja encima del refrigerador (esta temperatura es ideal). El tiempo de germinación a estas condiciones debe ser de 4 a 15 días. Sin embargo, dales unos 25 días. Cuando empieces a ver las primeras plantulas salir de la tierra es imperativo que pongas la caja de germinación en un lugar soleado (sin embargo es muy importante que se mantenga humeda la tierra, no demasiado porque tendrías problemas con hongos, pero muy poco y tus plantas se marchitarían). Para ayudarte más es indispensable saber tu ubicación geográfica y tu presupuesto (cuando me los digas te sigo comentando), aunque espero que con estos tips puedas llegar por lo menos a la fase de plántula. Nuevas flores
Desde hace como una semana les debo el post de las flores de las variedades de tomates grandes y pues aquí están, las dos fotos de la parte inferior del collage. Las flores son de un tamaño mayor que las de las plantas de tomate cherry y además, noté que la variedad hibrida glorida F1 floreció unos 4 días antes que las otras plantas de tomates grandes. También incluí unas fotos de las flores de los tomates cherry (las de arriba en el collage) para que vean como van estas plantas. La foto de la esquina derecha es del cluster más grande que hay, donde, a proposito, ya se empezaron a marchitar las flores y empezaron a crecer los bonitos tomaticos cherry. Los clusters de las otras plantas tienen capullos y obviamente flores mucho más grandes pero, como era de esperarse, tienen muchos menos capulllos ya que los tomates que crecen tienen un peso mucho más grande.
